The Scariest Thing Ever
It's funny the things that cause us to fear. For some people, it's public speaking. I love public speaking. For others it's heights. Not too fond of that. Some people love attention. While I seem very outgoing, some types of attention bring me great fear! I post occasional selfies on FB, but that's just when I'm feeling a bit silly. But this. What I am about to do, makes my knees knock. I don't know why. I am sure if I asked myself some good questions, I'd get to the bottom of it. But, I'm going to do it anyway, because that's how I roll with fear.
I'm going to skip the weight gain story. You can read about that here:
Weight gain/loss journey
Here's wear it gets really scary. I am posting my before, before, and during pictures. Eventually I will be so excited to share an after picture. That day is coming soon. 🙂 But for now. Here we go. Fear factor and all.
One year ago, I looked like this.
That one's not so scary. Before, my face in 2014 and Feb. this year. Ok, here we go.
This was March 2014. I took this picture before starting some other products that I would not say were nutritional necessarily, but herbal. I weighed 195 pounds. I tried those products for 8 months and did not find they did much for me in terms of WEIGHT loss. You will see in the next pictures that I am a little leaner. But I weighed 193 when I started Isagenix. No offense intended, but when I read the back label of the other "multi-vitamin" I laughed out loud. I've been studying nutrition for nearly thirty years. It didn't have a lot of MULTI.
A small difference, but for the money I spent over time, I did not feel it was money well spent. I tried every combination of their products and this was the improvement. Having said that, during that time, I also picked up Zumba twice a week. So, it could have been the fact that I was moving my waist and booty.
And NOW. I do love these pictures a bit more. 20 pounds of loss, which when I was a young chiquita I could have literally done in six weeks. But now I have this extreme hypoglycemia deal going on that makes weight loss nearly IMPOSSIBLE. Until now. Haha. And they are NUTRITIONAL products.
- 23 vitamins and minerals
- Protein, energy-fueling carbs, and good fats
- High-fiber content and active enzymes aid digestion
I FEEL so much better. I LOOK so much better. I get compliments everywhere I go, and while that's NOT what it's about, it sure feels nice. My ankles had turned to cankles, but now my ankels are back. My fingers are thin, and my finer features are coming back. I have worked very hard. Not just on this nutritional program, but continuing my exercise program, making permanent changes, working on the thoughts in my head, and working on bad habits. I have ten more pounds. I do actually still have a little roll. Ten more pounds is NOT my dream weight. I am not going for my dream weight. I am going for a healthy 48 year old woman weight. And I'm excited. For the first time in six years, I KNOW I will reach my goal and I have a maintenance plan after.
Are you tired of where you are? I have a plan. And you will get all kinds of support. If you didn't read my story, check it out, and the different ways you can get started. PM me or email me or if you know me, just pick up the phone. Being prepared PHYSICALLY is one way we need to be prepared for the coming events that WILL eventually come our way. Let me help you get in your best shape. 🙂 Products cost but coaching and support is FREE.
Nutritional Swings
Although, I enjoy sharing the amazing self improvement skills I've learned over the years, I have learned about MYSELF, that I love reading nutritional stuff. And then trying it out and seeing how it goes. I've loved being in control of my own health, and finding ways naturally (mostly and usually without medical help) to apply knowledge and sit back and watch the miracle of the body take over. I once heard a speaker give an amazing talk about "The Magnificence of Man." And I agree. Our bodies, being built with the capacity to heal, are simply amazing when we give it the proper fuel.
The last few years, I gained some unexplainable weight. Over 3 months, I gained nearly 30 lbs, and over more time, it increased to 40. It has been distressing at times, as I have done everything known to woman, except starve myself to try to shed the pounds. All medical tests reveal me as the ever present Mrs Normal. Well that's a relief on one level. On another, not so much. And even though I've tried low carb, healthy versions of Atkins, paleo type, increasing fruits and veggies, exercising until I am red in the face, nothing has worked, except one small jaunt on HCG, that I lost 15 pounds and it came right back. No, I don't stash oreos and ho hos in my cupboards. I'm normal, but I am more healthy than normal.
It has always been concerning to me the popularity of one "healthy" concept over another. Low carb, high carb, saturated fats, vegan, paleo, mediterranean, and on and on. It's exhausting trying to wade though information and figure out who is telling you the truth. But there has been a little voice inside me whispering for years, "stop eating wheat." Wheat? Stop eating wheat? Are you serious? The staff of life? Healthy whole grains? Are you crazy? Do you know how many products contain wheat? I found out today RICE-a-Roni and Whoppers both contain wheat! What? And I gag the little voice and stuff it in a closet.
But I've known for some time, it was telling me the truth and dang if it doesn't keep popping out of the closet at the oddest times. Combine that with my newfound knowledge about Functional Medicine and Functional Nutrition. (For another post) And my Dr's insistence that the wheat we eat today is not the wheat our grandparents ate. He calls it Frankenwheat. And then I saw the Wheat Belly book. Ok, it's meant to be. I ordered it up through my library. If you haven't tried inter libraray loan, you simply are missing out.
I'll finish it tonight. But what stopped me in my tracks and left my chin hanging tonight is data. Pure, simple date by someone with no agenda. Years ago I read a book called the China Study. To keep this short, you can go find out about it. A 20 year study in China of different nutritional populations and the conclusions from that unique study. Turns out, even the China Study left out some crucial data, and someone took the time to dive into that data and see what it really said. One major thing left out of Dr Campbells conclusions, in his own book, is the unhealthy relationship with wheat. I am telling you this PAINS me. My cravings are breads, crackers, chips, etc. Mostly of the wheat variety. And there is a reason for those cravings but you'll have to read Wheat Belly.
Anyway, because of the data this young woman extracted about wheat from the China Study, I have all the reason I need to continue with my recent foray into a wheat free experiment. (I am sure my family will be regretting it eventually). So, I went to Denise Migner's website and found she has written a book. I'll confess I have a sick and twisted fascination with smashing paradigms (thus my love of all things EFT), and this gal seems to feel the same way. I've only read the first post, but I know what my next book will be. Death by Food Pyramid. Check it out at Death By Food Pyramid.
The positive correlation between wheat and adverse health conditions is pretty undeniable based on her data analysis. If you have chronic health conditions, and you have no other place to go, you can skip the somewhat technical information in Wheat Belly, and simply drop all wheat from your diet for 4 weeks and see what it does. Pretty incredible case studies. And as a trivia question, the glycemic index for 30 grams of wheat bread is 71. 30 grams of M&Ms? 33. That means that 30 grams of wheat bread will raise your blood sugar more than twice that of the same weight of M&Ms. It just seems like there is something wrong with that. Want to experiment with me? Drop the wheat. 4 weeks. Let's see what happens.
Food addiction? Piece of cake
No, that's not an offer for a piece of cake. Because even if I did offer you a piece of cake and you are a cake addict, once I get through with you, chances are, you'll be handing me the cake back. Don't believe me? Then you should have been at my free class on Saturday.
I did my standard chocolate demonstration, this time with rollos. I had a small group, but both chocolate lovers took one small nibble as instructed. Then we applied standard EFT. Neither one of them finished the chocolate. Yes! Participant number three claimed she did not like chocolate. So, I eyed her large soda sitting next to her. What's that? Dr Pepper. Okey dokey. How about you apply it for the Dr Pepper? How bad do you want to finish that? 0-10 she was at a happy 10. Definitely. I asked her to take a small sip. And then she tapped along with the others who were tapping for chocolate.
I asked her to please take a sip now that her craving was 0 only 2 minutes later. She sipped and exclaimed it had no taste. Haha. We did one more round and I asked her to taste again. All she could "taste" was carbonation. When the class was over, she took it home to give to her husband. Yep, it's that simple.
3 minute relaxation technique releases addictions. Want to quit smoking, drinking alcohol or coffee, chocolate addiction or the midnight snack? Make an appointment now. Results guaranteed or your money back.
I am not a licensed physician or psychiatrist. I am a teacher and a certified EFT consultant and I use EFT with clients to target and address stress in the body. I cannot and do not diagnose, nor do I guarantee you will have excellent results though typically the average person can get 50-70% success with their own use. If it's not working, it may just mean there are techniques you don't know. That's when I can help.

Weight Loss Technique Eliminates Emotional Overeating: Halts Need for Comfort Foods
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) — Most diet and exercise plans require will power – and that's why they fail. But a simple "emotional acupressure" technique eliminates the need for will power along with the underlying causes of emotional overeating.
"The real drivers in weight loss cases are emotional issues such as self-worth and anxiety," explains The Editors, the Stanford-trained engineer who developed EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques). "Until these emotions are properly resolved, will power will take a back seat and the need for 'comfort foods' will win out every time."
New York City therapist Carol Look, LCSW, DCH, agrees. "When you use sugar or overeating as a way to numb your feelings," says Dr. Look, "no diet in the world can help you. Even the latest surgery does nothing to correct underlying emotional imbalances that trigger overeating. EFT doesn't focus on calorie restriction. Instead, it targets emotions that lead to immediate cravings, hunger pangs, and poor eating habits, such as emotions triggered by daily stress, issues from the past, a family history of obesity, limiting beliefs about ones ability to lose weight, fear of the future, and other factors that trigger binges."
EFT addresses these issues by combining focused thought with gentle fingertip tapping on key acupressure points. Dr. Look and other EFT practitioners worldwide report a 50- to 80-percent success rate for most who try it for weight loss, and the results, especially for specific cravings, are often immediate.
"Clients soon notice that they begin to 'forget" about eating binges," she says, "and they become engaged in activities other than secretive eating or food shopping. Their weight comes off as the underlying issues are addressed and the basics of symptomatic behavior are tapped away."
As word about EFT spreads, a growing number of medical doctors and other health care practitioners are teaching it to patients.
"Some day the medical profession will wake up and realize that unresolved emotional issues are the main cause of not only compulsive overeating but all illnesses," says Eric Robins, MD, a Los Angeles urologist. "When that happens, EFT will be one of medicine's primary healing tools. It already is for me."
More than 500,000 worldwide have downloaded The Editors's free training manual from the official EFT website, which features dozens of weight-loss case reports. Some have lost over 100 pounds or overcome conditions like bulimia using the technique.
"America is in the throes of an obesity epidemic," says Craig. "Public health officials are concerned because people of all ages, including children, are at risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other health problems. These are preventable tragedies. EFT is a new technique, but it already has an impressive track record in helping people lose weight, get in shape, stay active, and improve their overall health."
As a bonus, he says, EFT is so easy to learn that even the very young can use it.
The free EFT manual gives all the basics and has been translated by volunteer practitioners into seventeen languages. It can be ordered at Amazon or you can email me for a free copy.
