Destination Unknown
Some people have clearly defined goals. They know where they are headed and they know what they want. They chart a course to the destination and they keep traveling until they reach it. I am not one of those people. I had a destination in mind many years ago, but from the beginning, every destination seemed like a good one. Not every destination, but many destinations. As I studied over the years, I discovered that I have gifts and talents and preferences. So, I began narrowing the possibilities of my ultimate destination. I knew I wanted to travel (figuratively speaking), but it's only been in the last year that I have finally figured out where I want to go more than any other place.
Some good things are coming my way, and I shared the possibilities with a mentor recently.
"One thing I have learned in the last few months is that sometimes we take a step in a direction that we think will take us to a certain destination. But then, after we get on the path, headed in the new direction, the destination changes. In the change, we realize how much better the destination is than our original plan. I LOVE IT!!"
Having a destination right off the bat is a great thing. There is no shame though in knowing you want success but aren't sure how to reach it. If you find yourself on a path and another option appears, and it seems just as good or better than the path you are on, consider switching paths. The point is being open to the possibilities. Some parts of my path have been well trodden. I knew they needed to be included. Other parts have not been clear at all. So, I just keep taking the next turn as it comes, evaluating the new roads that show up, and stepping on to new paths when it feels like the right thing to do.
I'm very excited about my future in coaching. I am optimistic about it taking me to health coaching. I'm thrilled to enjoy the scenery and the ride as the beautiful vistas appear before me. 🙂 Where are you headed? What is your journey? Where will it take you?
